AlUla Skies Festival 2026: Dates, Tickets, Hot Air Balloons & Travel Guide

AlUla Skies Festival 2026 runs from 6 to 15 November, bringing sunrise balloon flights, tethered ascents, illuminated balloon shows and guided night-sky experiences to different locations across AlUla. Choosing your dates matters: some activities run daily, while others take place on selected evenings.

This guide explains which experiences to choose, how tickets work and how to coordinate accommodation, transport and sightseeing. For help building a trip around your priorities, Areej Al Alam Travel & Tourism can assist with planning your AlUla stay.

What Is AlUla Skies Festival?

زرقاء Blue and white light beams above an outdoor stage and seated audience

AlUla Skies Festival brings together activities experienced from the air and events enjoyed from the ground. You might devote an early morning to flying, then choose an evening show or astronomy session on another day.

Think of it as a calendar of separately arranged experiences rather than one attraction with a single entrance gate. The practical starting point is deciding whether your priority is an actual flight, a shorter balloon ascent or evening entertainment.

AlUla Skies Festival 2026 Dates and Locations

AlUla Skies Festival 2026 takes place from 6 to 15 November, with experiences spread across Hegra, AlManshiyah Plaza, Elephant Rock, AlUla Fort, Jabal Ikmah and Our Habitas AlUla. Choose your travel dates around the activities you want to attend, as several evening events run only on selected dates.

Best Experiences at AlUla Skies Festival

Sunrise Balloon Flight

AlUla Skyrise is the full-flight option, with approximately 60 minutes airborne within a four-hour outing. It suits visitors who want landscape views from a moving balloon and can manage an early start. The published price is SAR 990 per person, for ages six and above.

Its ticket includes agreed-point return transfers and light refreshments. Before choosing accommodation, confirm your pickup arrangement with the operator; hotel collection should not be assumed everywhere.

Tethered Hot Air Balloon Experience

For a shorter AlUla hot air balloon outing, the tethered option rises up to 50 metres while remaining anchored. The listed duration is 20 minutes, priced at SAR 100, with a minimum age of six.

This is an easier choice when you want an evening ascent without committing to a dawn flight. Purchase tickets at the venue that evening; the published sales window is 17:45–21:30. The tethered experience page states that advance tickets are not sold.

Hot Air Balloon Glow Show

The Glow Show combines illuminated balloons with music, acrobatics and projections. It is a one-hour ground-based performance, suitable for all ages, rather than a passenger flight.

Choose it for evening entertainment or when members of your group prefer to stay on the ground. Admission is SAR 30; food and drinks cost extra.

Stargazing and the Leonid Evening

Stargazing at AlUla Fort offers a guided, 60-minute astronomy and heritage session for ages ten and above. Entry is free, but advance registration is required. Meet at Old Town Visitor Centre at least 15 minutes before your slot.

The Leonid Meteor Shower event on 15 November is a four-hour alternative combining heritage interpretation, astronomy and sky observation. It welcomes all ages, requires a free ticket and recommends advance booking. Choose it if astronomy justifies a late finish; meteor sightings are never guaranteed.

Sunset Stillness and Cinema Updates

Sunset Stillness is a 75-minute breathwork and sound session for adults aged 18 and above, advertised from SAR 50 per person. Advance online booking is required; arrive 30 minutes early. A mat and water are included.

VOX Moonlight Cinema appears as “coming soon” on the festival page. Screening times, films and ticket prices were not confirmed there at review. Keep it as a possible addition rather than an itinerary anchor.

Hot Air Balloon Flight vs Tethered Balloon vs Glow Show

Visitors searching for an AlUla balloon festival should first distinguish riding from watching. These three options involve different commitments.

Experience Airborne? Duration Age requirement Published price Booking
AlUla Skyrise flight Yes; untethered flight Four hours total; about 60 minutes flying 6+ SAR 990 per person Advance; deadline 16:00 the previous day
Tethered ascent Yes; anchored 20 minutes 6+ SAR 100 At venue that evening
Glow Show No passenger flight One-hour show All ages SAR 30 Advance only; no onsite sales

For an AlUla hot air balloon flight, choose the first option. For lower cost and a shorter ascent, choose tethered ballooning. For a group outing without flying, choose the show. Booking one does not grant admission to the others.

AlUla Skies Festival Tickets and Booking

Book AlUla Skies Festival tickets separately for the experiences you want to attend. Check what each ticket includes, as booking one activity does not provide access to the others.

Reserve your priority experience first, then arrange accommodation and other activities around it. Before paying, confirm the date, age requirements, meeting point and cancellation terms. Keep your booking confirmation and arrival instructions handy.

Booking arrangements vary by experience:

  • AlUla Skyrise: Advance booking is required by 16:00 the day before your flight. Book earlier where possible to secure your preferred date.
  • Hot Air Balloon Glow Show: Tickets must be purchased in advance; they are not sold at the venue.
  • Tethered Hot Air Balloon Experience: Tickets are purchased onsite on the evening of your visit, with no advance sales.
  • Free astronomy experiences: Registration is still needed. Fort stargazing requires advance booking, while advance booking is recommended for the Jabal Ikmah meteor event.

Cancellation terms also differ. The sunrise flight allows refunds up to seven days before the experience, with a full refund if wind conditions prevent flying. The Glow Show has a three-day refund cutoff, while tethered balloon tickets are non-refundable. Review the individual booking page for complete conditions, including any non-refundable processing fees.

Prices and availability may change, and balloon experiences depend on weather conditions. Leave some flexibility in your itinerary when planning outdoor activities.

Which Dates Should You Choose?

For AlUla Skies Festival 2026, choose your evening priority before fixing hotel nights.

6–7 November: Target these evenings for the Hegra Glow Show or Fort stargazing. Select one main event per evening; a Fort session followed by the show would create a difficult transfer schedule.

13–14 November: Choose these dates for the Elephant Rock Glow Show, Fort sessions or Sunset Stillness. There is more choice, but trying to attend everything reduces time for meals and transfers.

15 November: Include this night if the Jabal Ikmah astronomy programme is central to your trip. Arrange departure after its midnight finish, preferably following another overnight stay.

For a flight-focused AlUla Skies Festival visit, any published flight date may work, subject to availability. Ideally place your flight before the final morning, leaving room to discuss alternatives if conditions interrupt operations; rescheduling is not guaranteed.

Where to Stay During the Festival

Choose accommodation by how your days will work. Compare its location with evening venues, its pickup arrangements and the ease of returning after a late event. A property that looks convenient for one activity may be less convenient for another.

For families, room configuration and quiet rest time matter after a dawn outing. Ask about early refreshments, breakfast hours, parking and reception availability before paying. Compare the full stay cost, including transport and cancellation terms, rather than the room rate alone.

Our Alula Saudi Arabia Guide: Best Alula tours for 2026 provides wider destination context. Use this festival guide to decide which dates and transfers your accommodation must support.

Getting to AlUla and Reaching Festival Venues

Look for flights to AlUla International Airport on your November travel dates. Direct services depend on your departure city and airline schedules, so confirm available routes before booking. If a direct flight is unavailable, compare connecting flights with an alternative airport and an onward road transfer.

Madinah or Tabuk can be alternative gateways with an onward road transfer. Compare the complete journey and arrange the road segment before booking. For local travel, consider a rental car or prearranged driver according to your group and evening plans.

The sunrise flight uses operator-arranged transport; self-driving to its launch site is not available. That transfer does not cover your other festival activities.

For the Glow Show, reach the designated parking point at least 60 minutes before the performance. Hegra uses Winter Park Parking; Elephant Rock uses Mohamed Yousef Naghi Equestrian Village Parking, with shuttles to the venues. Other activities have their own meeting instructions.

International visitors can also consult our Saudi Arabia Travel Tips for broader arrival planning.

A Suggested 3-Day AlUla Skies Festival Itinerary

This is Areej Al Alam’s suggested itinerary, not an official festival package. A 12–14 November stay combines a morning flight with a confirmed evening show, subject to bookings.

Day 1: Thursday, 12 November — Arrive and Settle In

Arrive, check in and confirm your next morning’s collection details. Keep sightseeing light: choose a relaxed meal or an Old Town visit if arrival timing allows. Avoid adding a late activity before your early start.

Day 2: Friday, 13 November — Fly, Rest and Watch the Show

Take the prebooked sunrise flight, allowing its published 04:30–08:30 window. Return for breakfast and a proper rest rather than scheduling an immediate heritage tour.

After a quiet afternoon and an early dinner, travel to the designated parking for the Elephant Rock Glow Show. Be there by 20:00 at the latest for the 21:00 performance, allowing additional time for your journey.

Day 3: Saturday, 14 November — Add a Heritage Visit

If departure timing allows, book a suitable Hegra tour as a separate activity. Seeing the landscape from a balloon does not replace exploring the heritage site on the ground.

Choose only one additional outing from the things to do in AlUla, then leave enough time to collect luggage and reach your departure point. Staying another night allows a Fort session instead of rushing into an evening departure.

Weather, What to Wear and Practical Tips

Pack removable layers for AlUla Skies Festival 2026, especially for time outdoors before sunrise and after dark. Use the near-date forecast to adjust your jacket choice; no particular temperature or clear sky is guaranteed.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and carry sun protection for daytime outings. For photography, charge your phone or camera beforehand and keep your setup simple enough to follow staff instructions. Ask the operator before bringing bulky equipment or arranging specialised filming.

Keep tickets, pickup messages and venue directions available offline. Ask your hotel about breakfast after the flight, and allow meals between afternoon and evening activities. Our Saudi Arabia Winter Travel Guide helps if AlUla forms part of a wider seasonal trip.

FAQs

Can our group request the same balloon basket?

Ask the operator before paying. Do not assume separate reservations will be assigned together.

Is one night enough for an AlUla balloon festival visit?

It can work for a focused visit, but two nights leave more time for a sunrise flight, rest and an evening event.

Should I book a balloon flight on my arrival morning?

Choose a morning after an overnight stay to avoid relying on flight connections or a late arrival.

What information should I share when requesting a trip quotation?

Send your travel dates, group size, children’s ages, preferred accommodation and the experiences you want to include.

Which activities support wheelchair users?

The Glow Show lists wheelchair accessibility. Both balloon rides, Fort stargazing, the Jabal Ikmah event and Sunset Stillness list restrictions; confirm individual requirements directly.

What if we arrive late for Fort stargazing?

Its published policy does not allow entry after the session starts.

Should we choose a hotel before buying AlUla Skies Festival tickets?

Check both in parallel. Avoid committing to restrictive accommodation before confirming your priority activity.

Can we leave immediately after the meteor event?

Only with a workable onward arrangement. An extra overnight stay is the more comfortable editorial recommendation.

How many extra attractions should we add?

For a short stay, select one or two things to do in AlUla around your main bookings, leaving time for rest.

Conclusion

AlUla Skies Festival works best when your chosen experiences, accommodation and transfers fit together. Combine a sunrise balloon flight, an evening event and a heritage visit, while leaving time to rest and enjoy AlUla at a comfortable pace.
